Your Centre-issued examination timetable or Statement of Entry should be your primary reference. Contact our Exams Team immediately if anything appears incorrect.

Before Exam Day

Make sure you are ready

  • Check your Statement of Entry carefully
  • Check the date and start time of every examination
  • Know where the Examination Centre is located
  • Plan your journey and allow time for delays
  • Have your required original identification ready
  • Check what equipment you need
  • Check whether a calculator is permitted
  • Read current JCQ Information for Candidates
  • Understand what you cannot take into the room
  • Check any approved Access Arrangements

Arriving for Your Exam

Please arrive in plenty of time

Arrive 30 minutes before the Centre's stated examination start time. This allows time to register, verify your identity, complete checks, confirm seating and hear instructions.

Normal written-examination session times:

9:00am for morning sessions and 1:30pm for afternoon sessions, unless your timetable or Centre communication says otherwise.

Candidate Identification

Remember your ID

Bring the original photographic identification required by the Centre. If you registered using the No Photo ID process, follow the identification instructions provided by the Centre.

Your name should match

Tell our Exams Team before the examination if your booking name and identification do not match.

What to Bring

Your exam-day essentials

  • Black pens, pencils, ruler and mathematical instruments
  • A permitted calculator where allowed
  • Original identification
  • Clear, label-free water bottle

Use a transparent pencil case where possible and bring only permitted equipment.

Do Not Bring

Unauthorised items

  • Mobile phones, smart watches or watches
  • Earbuds or other audio devices
  • MP3 players or smart glasses
  • Notes or revision materials
  • Unauthorised devices or equipment

Possession of unauthorised items can result in sanctions.

Exam Room Rules

Once you enter the room

  • Remain silent and follow invigilator instructions
  • Sit in the seat allocated to you
  • Check you have the correct paper
  • Wait before opening or starting
  • Work independently and raise your hand for help

Do not communicate, share equipment, access unauthorised material or disrupt others.

JCQ Information

Please read this

All candidates must understand the examination regulations that apply to written exams, on-screen tests, coursework, non-examination assessments, social media and Artificial Intelligence.

Malpractice

Cheating, unauthorised materials or devices, communicating with another candidate, impersonation, disruptive behaviour or failing to follow instructions may be reported to the awarding organisation and can lead to loss of marks or disqualification.

Follow the invigilator's instructions and never take anything into the examination room unless you know it is permitted.

Support During Your Examination Journey

Access Arrangements

Approved arrangements may include extra time, rest breaks, a word processor, reader, scribe, prompter, modified papers or other adjustments.

Tell an invigilator immediately

If an approved arrangement is not in place correctly.

If You Are Late

Contact us as soon as possible. Report to Centre staff on arrival and do not enter the examination room without permission.

Depending on how late you arrive, there may be restrictions on whether your script can be accepted.

Illness or Emergency

If illness or an emergency may prevent attendance, contact our Exams Team as soon as possible. Do not simply fail to attend.

Special consideration is decided by the awarding organisation and is not automatically granted.

During the Exam

If you become unwell or believe something has significantly affected your performance, raise your hand and tell an invigilator immediately.

Do not leave the room without permission.

Emergency Evacuation

Stop writing when instructed, follow the invigilator, remain silent and do not use your phone or discuss the examination.

You remain under examination conditions until told otherwise.

Timetable Clashes

If two examinations appear at the same time, contact our Exams Team immediately. Do not make your own arrangements or choose which exam to attend.

GCSE, AS Level and A Level Science candidates may have additional practical requirements. A Level Biology, Chemistry and Physics candidates may also need to provide information about their Practical Endorsement.

Receiving your results

Results are released on nationally published results dates. We will contact candidates before results day to explain how and when results will be available.
